These are primarily designed to increase skills and knowledge in improving the safety and efficiency of blasting operations in the Underground, Surface and Quarrying & Construction industries.
The course's have been developed over many years and cater to those people who have limited experience through to those with many years of blasting experience. Course content changes regularly ensuring that the latest technology and learning is discussed.
Applied Blast Engineering Course
Applied Blast Engineering Courses are offered for Underground Metal and Open Cut Mining applications. The courses are intended to give participants an advanced understanding of blasting principles. The agenda can be tailored to meet specific interests and is designed to further enhance the skills and knowledge of experienced shotfirers, mining engineers and supervisors, involving a range of problem solving workshops and presentations. Attendance at a Safe & Efficient Blasting Course is highly recommended prior to attending an ‘Applied Blast Engineering' Course. The courses are run over 1 or 2 days as specified.
Safe and Efficient Blasting Courses
These courses provide participants with principles that will assist them in managing or conducting blasting operations. The course is run over 2 days and cover all aspects of the blasting process in all mining markets.
Course Objectives
The program is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of shotfirers, supervisory personnel, mining engineers, geologists and drill and blast foreman. The objective of this course is to provide paricipants with greater understanding of the requirements of drilling and blasting so that they are able to carry out their job responsibilities which may be "hands-on" planning or supervisory:
SAFELY - without risk of causing injury or damage.... and EFFICIENTLY - in ways that maximise blasting performance whilst optimising overall costs.
Shotfiring Courses
Course Objectives
The objective of this course is to provide participants with a greater understanding of the requirements of drilling and blasting in Opencut Mining and after successful completion of the theory and practical components of the course participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment that is required to apply for Shotfiring Licence.
The opencut course complies with the National Open Cut Blasting Competency RIIBLA301A, Conduct Surface Shotfiring Operations.
The Underground course complies with RIIBLA303A Underground Development Shotfiring and RIIBLA Conduct Underground Production Shotfiring. The course also covers various state Regulations, Codes and National Standards.
The Opencut course is run over 4 days and the Underground course 3 days.
Candidates applying to attend the Shotfiring Course MUST have at least six months on bench/face experience.
Support Shotfiring
Course objectives
To provide participants with a better understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a support shotfirer, when assisting a licensed shotfirer to conduct shotfiring operations.
The course is based on the National Competency RIIBLA201A Support Shotfiring Operations and covers the following topics:
- State Acts and Regulations (tailored to the state in which the course is held).
- Australian Standard 2187.
- Magazines and Transport Explosives.
- Organise to fire the shot.
- Initiation Systems.
- Geology.
Who will benefit?
- All personnel required to assist on the shot crew whether experienced or a new started with limited on-bench experience.
Course Delivery
The course is delivered in convenient major centres around the country close to main mining areas. If required, the course can be run for a group from one organisation at a mine site or at a training venue handy to the workplace.
