Welcome to the Orica Denman Project website.

Orica has submitted a development application to Muswellbrook Shire Council to use the former Rosemount Winery Site on Rosemount Road, Denman as an ammonium nitrate (AN) storage and distribution facility to service the mining industry in the region.

Orica proposes that the buildings on site be retained with minor upgrade works to meet the relevant Australian Standards for AN storage. The proposed works are set back from Rosemount Road and not easily visible from any public viewing point.

The proposal has already been placed on exhibition, with more than 20 people lodging submissions with Council during the exhibition period.

Council has provided Orica with a summary of issues arising from community submissions, and requested further information regarding the project.

Once Orica has addressed these issues and provided Council with the requested information, Council will evaluate the proposal. Orica understands that a decision will be made over the coming months.

For further information on the planning process, visit the Muswellbrook Shire Council website,  www.muswellbrook.nsw.gov.au

At this website you can read more information on the project by visiting our Proposal at Denman page and have your say about the project at the Community Consultation section.

Orica investing in the Hunter Region

The Hunter Region is a significant part of Orica's Mining Services business, with some 450 employees in manufacturing, sales and marketing, operations and research and development teams in the region. Recently, Orica has made significant investment in the region, particularly in Kurri Kurri and Newcastle CBD.

In recent years, there has been increasing demand in the Hunter Valley for blasting services. In response to this, Orica is looking to significantly increase supply of AN by importing product from Queensland from 2012.

Most of the AN will be transported directly to customers and existing mine sites around the Hunter Valley and across NSW. Only a small proportion will  be stored at the proposed facility at Denman – the amount held at the former Rosemount Winery will be less than 2% of the AN currently used by Orica in the Hunter Valley.

We plan to continue to grow investment in this area, with this proposal one part of a bigger picture.

Orica is also investigating further development opportunities for the entire former Rosemount Winery industrial site.

Any future development proposal will require a separate environmental assessment and approvals process, and we will keep the community updated if and when that occurs.
