Black Powder
Black Powder is a mechanical mixture of potassium nitrate, sulphur and charcoal. The powder is supplied in granulated form, polished with graphite and screened to the defined grain size.
In rock blasting today, Black Powder is used mainly for cautious blasting in the production and splitting of block stone, primarily to eliminate or reduce the formation of cracks. The effect of Black Powder varies greatly with the constriction (tightness) of the rock. Black Powder is sensitive to water and can therefore be used in dry drill holes only.
