KNI Bontang
Kaltim Nitrate Indonesia is Indonesia’s
largest Porous prill Ammonium Nitrate manufacturer with a annual capacity of
300,000 Tes. It is a Joint venture between Orica Investment (Indonesia) Pty Ltd
and local partners - PT Armindo Prima being the largest shareholder. The
state-of-the art Ammonium Nitrate plant is strategically located in Bontang,
East Kalimantan. Besides proximity to some of the biggest Coal Mining projects,
KNI's location was determined by the availability of raw materials &
utilities in the Kaltim Industrial estate. The AN facility is part of the
industrial estate and has access to the Tursina wharf for loading the bagged
product into three time chartered vessels, to supply to various mining projects
in Indonesia.
The Plant construction commenced in Aug 2009, with an investment of USD 455
mil, and with a vision to have the largest AN producer in country to
specifically cater to the growing Mining industry. In the past, the mining
companies have been dependent on imported AN, sourced primarily from China
& Australia. Security of supply of imported product was always dependent on
the regional supply & demand, that is insulated from the Indonesia market
dynamics. KNI being a large, reliable indigenous supplier of world class AN,
will significantly change this scenario.
Although, this project has been designed
& construction has been supervised by expatriate experts, supported by
Indonesian engineers, its operations is managed by a team comprising of 160
Indonesian nationals.
The plant started production in April 2012, starting a new phase in the
Mining industry in Indonesia.
