Orica regularly conduct specially tailored blasting courses around Australia.
Our courses are designed to increase skills and knowledge in improving the safety and efficiency of blasting operations in the Underground, Surface and Quarrying & Construction industries.
The course's have been developed over many years and cater to those people who have limited experience through to those with many years of blasting experience. Course content changes regularly ensuring that the latest technology and learning is discussed.
Please note: Orica does not offer shotfiring courses to the public, please refer to your state explosives licensing authority to identify approved providers who offer shotfiring courses to the public.
Safe and Efficient Blasting Courses
Our courses provide participants with principles that will assist them in managing or conducting blasting operations. The course is run over 2 to 3 days and covers all aspects of the blasting process in all mining and quarrying markets.
Course Objective
To give course participants a greater understanding of drill and blast design choices and methods so they can carry out their jobs with greater:
- Safety - without risk of injury or damage
- Efficiency - maximising blast performance while optimising blast costs
Note, the course provided does not align with any nationally accredited training outcome.
Course Delivery
Our course is delivered in convenient major centres around the country close to main mining areas. Courses can also be run on-site upon request.

The Safe and Efficient Blasting (SEB) Course has been Held in Australia for over 30 years and is widely recognised as the best classroom-based training course for Drill and Blast engineers, Shotfirers, Supervisors and Managers in the extractive industries. The SEB Course has recently been significantly upgraded to include new content, modelling, and information about the latest blasting techniques and technology. Participants who attended a SEB course before 2017 will benefit from attending the new version of the course.
