Reactive Ore Testing
Ground reactivity can result in extremely high-risk events such as premature detonations potentially resulting in death, injury and/or significant equipment damage which is highly undesirable.
Reactive ore testing provides a method of assessing the potential for explosive ground reactivity and customising the level of inhibited explosive required for a given rock sample.
Orica uses state of the art analytical techniques to determine if an explosive ground reactivity problem exists or confirms its existence. This equipment together with appropriately trained personnel are located at Kurri Kurri Technical Center.
Orica recommends testing proposed and current mining areas for reactivity between Sulphide minerals and Ammonium Nitrate prior to the use of explosives. Please review Orica Mining Service's Reactive Ground Briefing Note for more information.
